Ph.D. Course on NUMERICAL METHODS FOR FLUID STRUCTURE INTERACTION


              

Objectives

The aims of the course is to provide basic competences on the numerical modeling and approximation of the fluid-structure interaction problem

Topics

  • Brief review on fluid-dynamics and computational fluid-dynamics;
  • The Navier-Stokes equations in a moving domain;
  • Brief review on continuum mechanics and related numerical methods;
  • Fluid-structure interaction: the continuous problem;
  • Numerical methods for FSI in small deformations: added mass method; ;
  • Partitioned algorithms for FSI: explicit, semi-implicit and implicit methods, added mass effect;
  • Monolithic schemes: preconditioners, Newton and inexact-Newton global methods;
  • Algebraic setting of the FSI problem;
  • Numerical methods for FSI with an immersed structure
